Associate - Payroll and General Accounting

As a member of the accounting team, you will ensure timely and accurate payroll administration. You will be responsible for handling the fundamental aspects of recordkeeping for payroll and related benefits as well as assigned general accounting tasks for a real estate asset management and development company.

Responsibilities/Essential Job Duties

  • Process and transmit bi-weekly payroll and maintain records of time worked for non-exempt associates and process mid-cycle adjustments
  • Match, review and enter all related documents for employees in payroll system and provide conduit to Human Capital department
  • Prepare routine and specialized payroll reports as requested
  • Prepare Workers' Compensation monthly calculations and reporting
  • Maintain current knowledge of 3rd party service provider software and processes
  • Process and transmit employee contributions to 401k or other benefit programs
  • Review and update sick and vacation balances for accuracy
  • Update and maintain payroll-related GL accounts
  • Process expense reimbursements in accordance with company policy, audit submitted expense reports in accordance with established company procedures to insure compliance with company expense reimbursement policy
  • Work with payroll service provider to ensure all state and federal reports are filed and taxes/withholdings are accurately paid
  • Assist outside auditors and accountants with any payroll-related year-end reporting
  • Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger to supporting details as assigned
  • Assist Accounting team in other monthly close duties and/or accounting projects
  • Other related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field and two years of experience in payroll processing; also prefer general accounting experience
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge and experience in payroll tax filing and payment requirements
  • Knowledge of California wage and hour regulations
  • Excellent communication skills via email, phone and in person
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, highly organized
  • Strong Analytical Skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook
